As the cradle of modern Chinese fashion,
Ningbo is the largest garments & textiles manufacturing
base in China. Equipped with Western methods, Ningbo tailors,
known as the Red Gang of Tailors, made the first Western suit,
opened the first Western suit store and published the first
Western suit textbook in China. The fashion industry, as the
pillar industry of the city, has received great support from
the government.
Ningbo has an annual garment output of 1.4 billion pieces, which
accounts for 13.7% of the whole garments output of China. In
Ningbo, there are many world-class garment enterprises, such
as Youngor, Firs, Romon, and over 20 other enterprises with
an annual output value of over 100 million RMB. Ningbo's garments
enterprises have total capital of 13.642 billion RMB and a total
annual turnover of 18.577 billion RMB, employing 128,000 people.
